POEM OF THE RAIN: Written by Ranjith Nadavayal

I have borrowed the daylight

To wrap you up

In return for your gift of memories,

Those dreamy dragonflies

Dipping into rain-clouds;

I yearn to prepare a bed

Of thorn- filled butterflies for you

All along the sandy paths

Devoid of the smell of mayflies;

And spread a carpet woven with

Half-cooked raindrops;

From far beyond the desert

Rises the stink of a charred dream

That makes me drugged;

You are disgusting

That lies forsaken

Like the shed snake skin;

You forgot how to peck at

The camaraderie offered

On the parched riverbed:

The river that has broken away

From the earth

Forgets to kiss the sky too;

Many hide their fangs

Behind their smooth tongues

And lick up the rotten smell

Of the heartbreaking wails;

When seasons get fried in our wolk,

I will keep aside my draught-stricken

Dreamland

Just as a seasoning for your meal.
