Red Deer Shines as Alberta’s Most Active Community

In a testament to the city’s commitment to wellness and physical activity, Red Deer has been named Alberta’s most active community for the fourth year in a row. The city won the 2025 ParticipACTION Community Challenge, a national initiative that encourages people to get active.

The challenge took place in June and involved many communities across Canada. Red Deer had over 90 local organizations working together to promote physical activity and sports. They offered many free and fun activities for people of all ages.

Mayor Ken Johnston is very proud of Red Deer’s achievement. He said, “Red Deer is a city that values wellness and being active.” The city will receive $15,000 to support local physical activity and sports initiatives.

Red Deer has participated in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge for six years and has won several awards, including Canada’s Most Active Community in 2022.

The city’s success is due to the hard work of many local partners, including Move Your Mood Recovery Alberta, Red Deer Polytechnic, and the Red Deer Public Library. These partners helped deliver many activities, such as walks, runs, and sports sessions.

In conclusion, Red Deer’s achievement is a testament to the power of community collaboration and commitment to promoting physical activity and wellness. The city’s success serves as an inspiration to other communities to prioritize health and wellness, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of this initiative on the residents of Red Deer.
