The Malayalee Cultural Association of Calgary (MCAC) was established in 1986 as a community of Malayalees who had come to Calgary, in the province of Alberta, Canada, from various parts of Kerala. The association’s committee, which transitions every two years, is now led by a woman president for the first time in two decades.

Since its inception the association has been working tirelessly to connect members of the community who speak their native language Malayalam, celebrate Kerala’s major festivals without losing their authenticity, showcase traditional art forms, provide a platform for modern sports and cultural entertainment, and guide newcomers.

As the new committee takes charge, MCAC has put together a dynamic and inclusive plan of activities for 2026. The year will begin with efforts to reconnect with members through Membership Drives.

The event calendar opens with a celebration of womanhood, marking International Women’s Day on March 7th. MCAC’s flagship program, MCAC Kerala Nite, which showcases the incredible talent within the community, will light up the stage on May 2nd.

Once again, MCAC will proudly represent Kerala’s rich heritage at the Calgary Stampede Prelude Parade on July 3rd, integrating our vibrant traditions and colourful art forms into the celebrated legacy of the Calgary Stampede. This will be followed by MCAC Kerala Fiesta on July 25, a lively trade and food fest where families and friends come together to enjoy great food, local businesses, and a festive atmosphere.

The grand MCAC Onam Celebration will take place on August 29th. Building on the success of previous years, MCAC aims to make it another spectacular gathering with over 1,000 attendees. The year will wrap up on a high note with MCAC Christmas and New Year celebration on December 19th.

In addition to these cultural events, a wide range of sports and games including cricket, badminton, and volleyball, as well as card, chess, and carrom tournaments will take place throughout the year, giving everyone more opportunities to connect, compete, and enjoy time together.

With these programs, MCAC hopes to make 2026 a year filled with connection, culture, and shared memories for the Malayali community in Calgary.
