BALA MENON

Bala Menon is a journalist-artist-historian storyteller living in Brampton, Ontario.

He began his career in the Times of India in Mumbai, before taking up an assignment in Muscat as Deputy Editor with the Times of Oman, the national days of the Sultanate of Oman. He then moved to Dubai as a Deputy Editor of Gulf News, the largest English-language newspaper in the Middle East.

Moving to Toronto, Bala was Production Coordinator in the Magazines Division of Yellow Pages for 16 years before joining the Voice Media Group of Mississauga, the largest South Asian media house in Canada as Editor-in-Chief. He is also an Editor/Director of Tamarind Tree Books of Toronto, a niche publishing house.

He has authored three books:
1. Spice & Kosher – Exotic Cuisine of The Cochin Jews in Sept. 2013
2. Rhapsody Lane – A Selection of Works by Flower City Writers (Anthology with 2 other editors) in Dec. 2014.
3. The Jewish Gandhi of Cochin – a biography of A. B. Salem, Indian Nationalist/Zionist in Sept. 2020

Two more books are due to be released this year
1. Essays and notes on the Jews of Cochin
2. On The Tiddley Trail – A Collection of Twisted Tales (Short Stories)

He is also working on a book titled Folktales of Malabar.
