MAJOR JACOB PHILIPOSE

Major Jacob Philipose started his career as an Inspector of the Central Excise & Customs department in Mumbai. He was in the anti-smuggling flying squad. After a brief stint in this Department, he got selected as a commissioned officer in the Indian Army. He participated in 4 major wars. As a 2nd lieutenant, he participated in the liberation of Goa from the Portuguese. That was in 1961 In the 1962 war with China, his participation was minimal, a short war lasting only a few days. In 1965, he was in the Rann of Kutch war with Pakistan, which stayed close to 2 months. In 1971, I participated actively in the liberation of Bangladesh. In 1973, he took early retirement from the Indian Army and joined the Department of Atomic Energy as a logistics officer. After serving in this position for 3.1/2 years, he resigned from this job and immigrated to Canada with his two sons and wife. After a hectic struggle in Canada, he and his wife secured reasonably good positions with Suncor Energy Inc. After serving the company for 19 years, both took early retirement and moved to Calgary in Dec 2015.
