Major Jacob Philipose 91 (Born August 1, 1934 – Died July 18, 2025)
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Major Jacob Philipose also known as Chakochan, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and respected community member. He peacefully passed away on July 18, 2025, in Kerala, India, at the age of 91.
Life and Legacy
Born on August 1, 1934, in Maramon Kolathu House, Kumbanad, Kerala, Major Philipose pursued higher education at Union Christian College, Aluva, graduating in 1955. He served in the Indian Army, rising to the rank of Major at ADGPI, and later worked at the Atomic Energy Commission (BARC) in Bombay. After retiring from the Army, he worked at Suncor Oil Sands Base Plant in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.
Community Service
Major Philipose’s life was marked by generosity and quiet service. He helped over 130 individuals from India settle in Canada, supporting them through immigration processes and providing shelter in his home. He also sponsored the nursing education of over 125 students from Kerala, empowering future generations.
Family and Faith
He is survived by his loving wife Annie, sons Jacob Abraham and Philip Jacob, daughter-in-law Selina Jacob, and granddaughter Sasha Ria Jacob. Major Philipose was an active member of the Mar Thoma Church in Calgary, where his faith, humility, and kindness touched the community.
