Mississauga Syro-Malabar Eparchy Professional Forum Focuses on Leadership Development and Community Empowerment
Mississauga: The Professional Forum of the Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Mississauga convened a meaningful gathering focused on the future growth of the community, leadership development, empowering newly arrived immigrant families, and strengthening the Christian community’s contribution to nation-building in Canada.
The meeting began with an opening prayer led by Sr. Josy CMC.
The gathering was inaugurated by very Rev. Fr. Augustine Kallumkatharayil serves as the Proto-Syncellus (Vicar General) of Eparchy of Mississauga, who emphasized that a strong community is built when faith is accompanied by service and responsible leadership. Rev. Fr. Justin then delivered the spiritual reflection, reminding participants that unity, faith, and a spirit of service are the pillars of a vibrant Christian community. He encouraged every family to become active partners in the mission of the Church.
Leadership Challenges for a Community of 50,000
The forum observed that although the Syro-Malabar community in Canada has grown to more than 50,000 members, its presence in public life, politics, and leadership positions remains below its potential. Participants stressed the need to identify, mentor, and equip capable and committed individuals to assume leadership roles for the benefit of both the Church and society.
Building a Beautiful Community in God’s Hands

With an increasing number of young people and newly arrived families enriching the community, participants emphasized that true growth should not be measured merely by numbers. Instead, the vision should be to build a beautiful community in God’s hands—one rooted in faith, love, service, and mutual support.
Community Empowerment and Nation-Building
The forum held extensive discussions on initiatives to strengthen the community through mentorship programs, leadership and skill development, support systems for newcomers, fostering a strong work ethic, preparing for workforce changes driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), identifying additional income opportunities, and encouraging entrepreneurship and business development. Participants recognized these initiatives as essential for empowering families while enabling the Christian community to make meaningful contributions to Canadian society.
