The Story and Message of Diwali
The story of Diwali varies from region to region. The most popular story include the birth of Goddess Lakshmi and hence conduct Lakshmi Puja.
The story behind Lakshmi Puja on Diwali is that Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity emerged from the churning of the cosmic ocean. It is believed that on this night, she visit the homes of her devotees to bless them with fortune which is why families clean their homes and light lamps to welcome her and seek blessings for financial abundance and fortune. Diwali is called th festival of light.
It is celebrated with great joy all over India. People clean and decorate their homes. Diyas, candles and rangoli make houses look beautiful. The other story associated with Diwali is the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom of Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and his victory over the demon king Ravana which is celebrated by lighting lamps to signify the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.
